Weekend Getaways Close to Home

Life is short – fit in some fun weekend getaways every now and then, to chill out, have a good time, and get away from your day-to-day routine. However, picking which destination to travel to can be hard when you are only going to have a few days free. Below is a list of a few great spots for a weekend trip you will love.
New York City
Getting to the city that never sleeps from nearly anywhere is convenient by car, rail, or plane. It has so many worthwhile inside and outside things to do that weather conditions should not factor into your decision: Central Park and the High Line for lovers of the outdoors, and intriguing museums or entertaining Broadway shows if and when you prefer to stay indoors. History enthusiasts can go to Ellis Island by ferry to see the first stop of many immigrants in days past or climb to the top of the famous Statue of Liberty.
San Francisco
The City by the Bay offers temperatures in the 60s most of the year, making it perfect for trekking across the Golden Gate Bridge, riding the celebrated cable cars and exploring the city's eclectic neighborhoods. What's more, sports fans can enjoy wonderful views of the San Francisco Bay from AT&T Park in baseball season.
Washington, D.C.
The lovely U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. has many important attractions that are very easy to visit, as many are free of charge and located within walking distance of each other: the imposing Lincoln Memorial, the awe-inspiring Washington Monument, and many more. The weekend brunch scene is really great here, but be sure to secure reservations ahead of time.
New Orleans
New Orleans has so many activities to do it’s impossible to fit it all into a single weekend, so pick carefully. The beautiful City Park has a lot of fun things to do if you want to be outside in the open air, or if you prefer museums, check out the famous and fascinating National WWII Museum. Anyone spending time in New Orleans has to set aside some time to stroll around the legendary French Quarter (preferably in the evening) and save some appetite for the delicious traditional beignets.
Nashville, NC
Nashville, North Carolina is best known for its adventurous outdoor things to do and craft beer scene, since it is a mecca for both hipsters and outdoorsy types. The famous Appalachian Trail passes through the area if you want to hike a section, and nearby Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway also offer wonderful day hikes. A day in the mountain air will make you thirsty, so be sure to check out some of the great local breweries, which together offer over 100 locally-crafted beers for you to sample.
Chicago
Chicago's famous eats, distinct neighborhoods, and abundance of can't-miss sights make it a great weekend vacation spot. If the weather is warm, cruise down the Chicago River to see the city’s legendary architecture, then head over to Millennium Park to check out the sculpture locals affectionately nicknamed “The Bean”. Chicago has a rich culture of notable museums such as the Field Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago; perfect for those cold Chicago winter days.
Seattle
This gem of the Pacific Northwest features iconic sights like Pike Place Market, the original click to learn more about destinations Starbucks and the Space Needle, all of which you can enjoy in a matter of days. You could additionally schedule in a hike in Discovery Park or on nearby Mount St. Helens. Just be sure to bring an umbrella and a raincoat – weather in the Emerald City can be cloudy.
